What do you look for in a glamping holiday?
Romantic Retreats
A stunning shepherd’s hut like no other: huge double-ended bath and super-king size bed. Perfect for walks through wildflower meadows, lazing in the hammock and snuggling together by the firepit. Totally secluded. Utterly magical.
A couple’s haven with every possible luxury: hot tub, sauna, outdoor multi-jet shower, hammock, firepit and BBQ. This beautifully furnished shepherd’s hut is one of a cluster, each with a private garden, at the base of the Skirrid mountain. Nip next door to the café for a delicious breakfast.
Stargazer Cabin in The Secret Walled Garden
This rustic cabin, set in a Tudor walled garden, has a mezzanine bedroom under a conical roof with glass panels - so you can gaze together at the stars. Outside, there’s a secluded seating area with fire pit. The historic town of Monmouth is just a ten-minute walk away – perfect for a romantic evening out.
Walks from the doorstep
Walk from this lovely shepherd’s hut to the summit of Bryn Arw, and you’ll be rewarded with 360˚ views: Vale of Ewyas to the north, Blorenge to the south, Sugar Loaf to the west and Skirrid Fawr to the east. Walking books and OS maps provided, to help you plan your next route.
Two gorgeous shepherd huts at the foot of the Skirrid Fawr, a distinctive mountain which originally had a chapel on its summit. Head up there for amazing sunrises and sunsets, and relax in your private hot tub afterwards.
Sociable stays
Get together in the communal tent for chatting and games, or book the entire site for your exclusive occasion. Onsite events include stargazing, bushcraft, campfire cookery and clay pigeon shooting. Order local food and drink from their very own Pantry, including ready-to-eat dishes which can be heated up on the stove or firepit.
Get a real taste of rural life. Each spacious lodge has a large log burner for cooking and heating, there are sheep and alpacas in the fields, and kids go wild building dens in the woodland and dams in the stream. At Kate’s Country School, nearby, adults can try cider making, sheep shearing and other traditional skills.
Five highly decorated Mongolian yurts with sumptuous beds, set in extensive wildflower meadows and woodland. Safari-style dining tent with 6m long table, communal pizza oven and BBQ. Enjoy a game of boules or join in the conversation around the camp fire.
Accessible to all
Set on a hill farm, these lodges provide panoramic views of seven mountains and Raglan Castle. Designed for wheelchair-accessible holidays, the single storey lodges have a spacious interior, including a wet room with deluge shower. Relax on the front and rear decks, or enjoy a BBQ on your private seating area by the wildlife pond.
Green credentials
An idyllic woodland oasis on an organic farm. You’ll sleep soundly in the lambswool-lined spherical pod, after watching the stars through the clear roof. The kitchen, shower and composting toilet are housed in two wooden cabins – made from the farm’s own timber. Welcome pack includes local cider.
An homage to wood, writer Rob Penn penned ‘The Man Who Made things out of Trees’ in this cabin. There’s handmade wooden panelling, hanging rails made from branches, and a hammock and oak deck outside. The ensuite shower room has a composting toilet.
All nestled in ancient woodland, filled with birdsong.
This delightful shepherd’s hut looks extra pretty in Spring when the surrounding apple trees are in blossom. Solar panels provide electricity, and there’s an ensuite shower room with composting toilet. Take in the amazing sunsets from the top of the orchard while relaxing by the firepit.
Great food and drink
The Hop Garden at Kingstone Brewery
Just moments from the iconic Tintern Abbey and the River Wye, this micro-brewery offers a range of glamping options - from a cabin with a hot tub, to a converted horsebox. Book a brewery tour, enjoy a beer or two, and don’t miss their monthly wood-fired pizza night.
Nestled in an orchard which produces apple juice and cider, this charming wagon provides the perfect digital detox, as there’s no phone signal or WiFi. Unwind in nature, with birds, butterflies and starry skies. Stroll to The Michelin starred restaurant, The Whitebrook, in just 10 minutes, or relax round the firepit, sipping cider.
Nostalgia
While this railway wagon evokes a bygone era, it’s bang up-to-date with everything you need for a relaxing break: luxurious double bed, ensuite shower room, well-equipped kitchen, private garden with rocking chairs and a locally-made firepit. Expect some nostalgic railwayana, too.
You’ll sleep in a 1976 bus, kitted out with a cosy wood burner, and a kettle for your morning cup of tea. A shepherd’s hut nearby houses the kitchen and shower room, and outside there’s a BBQ, firepit and gentle stream. This peaceful encampment is completely off grid, with solar power, spring water and composting toilet.
Two old railway wagons have been transported to a remote spot on a family farm, and transformed into an incredible retreat, with a deck extending over a stream. There’s a warm welcome with local produce including eggs, bread, butter, teabags and biscuits, not to mention the underfloor heating and wood burner.
Experience another era in this 1987 Bluebird American school bus, located on a peaceful farm with views of the Brecon Beacons. You can’t help but chill out here: the rustic interior includes a super king-size bed; outside there’s a wood-fired hot tub and the calming sounds of nature.
Visiting castles
This Welsh-made shepherd’s hut overlooks Raglan Castle, which was overcome by Cromwell’s forces in the Civil War. It has cosy underfloor heating, a wood burner, and an ensuite shower room. Outside, there’s a firepit for those starlit evenings. Extra touches include tea and cake on arrival, and continental breakfast on your first morning.
You can’t get any closer to history – this imaginative glamping is in the grounds of Usk Castle. Choose from a fort, a yurt, shepherd’s cabin or even a wooden barrel! Get to know your fellow time travellers in the communal kitchen, and as you explore the enchanting ruins of this privately-owned castle.
Dog friendly
Secluded location with far-reaching views, and plenty of space and fresh air for your dog to enjoy. You’re spoilt for choice – cook in the kitchen, on outside on the BBQ or pizza oven. If holidaying with a large group, book the country house on the same site, and Franky’s Hideout is included.
A wooden lodge with all the luxuries of a contemporary hotel room. With a gas BBQ on the covered terrace, and a fire pit in the garden, you and your dog will enjoy the outdoor life. Expect to be surrounded by birdsong, and look out for red kites, rabbits and squirrels.
