You are here: Inspire me > Nature & wildlife > Daffodils
Daffodils (Narcissus) are a true symbol of Wales. From late February to early April the fields, meadows, verges and valleys of Monmouthshire come alive with the yellow colour of this Welsh national flower.
If you travel anywhere around Monmouthshire in early Spring you're sure to see a daffodil. But here's some of our favourite places to spot them.
Start of the Wales Coast Path, Chepstow
As you'd expect for a path which traces the whole coastline of Wales, the start of the Wales Coast Path in Chepstow is awash with daffodils. Near the Old Wye Bridge on the border of England and Wales, it's a beautiful part of Chepstow with great views up to Chepstow Castle.

Llanover Garden
The entryway to Llanover Gardens are a sea of yellows and whites when the daffodils bloom. This 18-acre Grade II listed garden was established in the late 18th century, and it's easy to see how it continues to remain popular over 200 years later. Visit for the annual NGS Open Garden on the 24th March.

Caldicot Castle's Country Park
Caldicot Castle may be closed for the season until Easter, but the Country Park is always open for visits. There's always beautiful daffodils this time of year, but even if you miss them you can enjoy bluebells in April / May, the autumn colours in October and snowdrops in January / February.
Bryngwyn Manor, Raglan
Bryngwyn Manor near Raglan is the perfect place to see daffodils as they have a dedicated daffodil walk to enjoy. They hold an NGS Open Day every March which is the perfect time to go and enjoy. In 2024 it's on the 29th March.
Churches of Monmouthshire
The churchyards of Monmouthshire are often awash with daffodils in spring, adding to the historic beauty of these sites. Above is St. Faith's in Llanfoist, but there's also daffodils at St. Mary the Virgin in Capel Y Ffin, outside Tintern Abbey, at the remains of St Mary's Church in Tintern and in many more places.
