You are here: Plan your visit > Family friendly Monmouthshire > Family Friendly Walks
Monmouthshire is full of great family friendly walks, perfect for walking with your children during the school holidays (or just on a weekend). We've picked out X of our favourites, with family friendly walks near Chepstow, Monmouth, Abergavenny, Usk and Caldicot.
Caldicot Castle Health Walk
(Sir Jack guarding Caldicot Castle - @jkinwanderland)
Caldicot Castle is surrounded by a beautiful 55-acre country park, with woodland, streams, a lake, bridges, fields, and more. The 1.3 mile Caldicot Castle Health Walk is a great way to explore with children. The walk is flat and easy, with free parking at the start and an abundance of flora and fauna. The walk also takes you along the bed of the old castle moat, with the castle walls rising high above you. It also features a play park and (of course) a chance to visit Caldicot Castle itself (April - October), which is free to visit.

Wentwood Forest
(Wentwood Forest - @welshgirl_adventures)
This ancient forest is full of wildlife and colour, whatever the season. Bluebells in spring and gold leaves in autumn make it the perfect place to visit and learn all about the annual cycle of change.

Coed-Y-Bwnydd
(@caeheddcottage - Bluebells at Coed y bwnydd)
The largest and best preserved iron age hill fort in Monmouthshire is a haven for nature. Children love to see the riot of colours, plus the views over the Usk Valley. We definitely recommend visiting in spring to see the bluebells. You can combine a visit with the 3 hour Clytha and Bettws Newydd Walk, which takes in the Usk Valley Walk, a folly, churches and rural landscapes alongside the River Usk.

Magor Marsh
(Magor Marsh - @olhaphoto.uk)
Magor Marsh is a hidden gem on the Gwent Levels in the south of Monmouthshire, with boardwalks through natural fenland, damp hay meadows, ponds, reeds and a mosaic of wildlife habitats. And best of all, it is free to visit!
Bird hides give photographers a chance to see the birdlife undisturbed, with swans, kingfishers, warblers, cuckoos and more flying in and out throughout the year otters, voles and other small mammals running through the reeds; plus cattle and over livestock grazing on site.
The Blorenge High Level Walk
(@laurardavis1980 - Walking on the Blorenge)
When the dragon's breath rolls in, the Bannau Brycheiniog / Brecon Beacons peaks become islands in the clouds. It's a fantastic experience that children love to see, and can be viewed from this walk on top of the Blorenge mountain near Abergavenny.
