Fishing

Monmouthshire is a fishing paradise. Running through the spectacular scenery of the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Usk and Wye rivers are two of the best salmon rivers in the UK. In most years, the section below Monmouth is the one that adds most to the Wye’s overall salmon catch. The salmon run on the Usk is slightly later than the Wye, with the bulk of the catches coming from May/June onwards.

There is also first class trout fishing on offer along stretches of the Monnow, Usk and Wye in Monmouthshire, available to book through wild streams.

For Coarse fishing, the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal is ideal for both experienced and novice anglers.

The Bristol Channel and Severn Estuary provide excellent sea fishing particularly for winter cod and whiting.
