About

Situated in the beautiful county of Monmouthshire, The Bell at Skenfrith, a former 17th century Welsh coaching inn and one of Wales’s most renowned boutique hotels, was completely restored in 2001. In 2015, under the new ownership of Sarah Hudson and Richard Ireton, the hotel was updated throughout. Due to last year's and this February's major floods, The Bell has now been extensively restored downstairs!

Carefully and thoughtfully decorated by Sarah, the oak beams and antique furniture, coupled with an abundance of fresh flowers and green plants, contemporary comfy sofas and chairs, give The Bell its relaxing and easy atmosphere. The bars and restaurant have all been redesigned and now have a much more light, airy and spacious feel. The pretty garden terrace has been extended to allow more tables and seating areas, which works well for the new social distancing rules.

The hotel has eleven individually designed bedrooms, all with bathrooms en suite and filled with the British perfumier Noble Isle's aromatic toiletries. Beetroot grown in the hotel's kitchen garden is used for its Fireside collection.

On the banks of the river Monnow, The Bell at Skenfrith is on the outskirts of the tiny Welsh village of Skenfrith. With an award-winning restaurant and wine list, it is the perfect place to get away from it all for a romantic break, a special occasion, intimate weddings (the hotel's marquee can be tailored to your requirements), anniversaries/celebrations or to discover a variety of country pursuits.

The county of Monmouthshire is renowned for its miles of country walks and The Bell has created six of its own circular walks which guide the walker in and around the Skenfrith area, at times crossing the border into England and back - no passport required!

The Skenfrith Sleuth is an extremely popular Children’s Walk where they can search for clues about the history of Skenfrith Castle – one of the famous Marches castles - the medieval church of St. Bridget and Skenfrith village, all just across the road from The Bell. This is an ideal activity for half-term or holidays. Budding astronomers and galaxy watchers should know that, on a clear night our Skenfrith Sky is never diminished by orange light!

Whatever your reason for visiting, The Bell’s staff will always welcome you and help to make your visit a memorable one. Please note there is free wifi but mobile signals can be a bit erratic!

The Bell has 6 very popular circular walks with detailed maps, grid references and drawings. Dogs are most welcome at the hotel which has a special pet shower and towels and a big jar of biscuits. Small weddings and private events may be organised.
