About
The Upper Bettws Cottages (Hafod & Cuddfan) are high in the Black Mountains of the Bannau Brycheiniog / Brecon Beacons on a 17th century farm. There's exceptional, panoramic views of the Sugar Loaf Mountain and the beautiful Bettws Valley, yet only 10 minutes from Abergavenny with its fantastic pubs and restaurants.
The Monmouthshire views will take your breath away, but so will the combination of rustic and modern, with access to an indoor heated swimming pool (with a resistance swimming machine) from April to October, laundry facilities, free wi-fi and all you need for a relaxing break in the countryside.
Dogs, cats and other pets are most welcome.
Homely self-catering accommodation
Hafod Cottage and Cuddfan Cottage, have been converted from very old farm buildings with thick stone walls and heavy oak beams. Both cottages retain original features but also have a range of modern adaptations to provide homely self-catering accommodation.
Each cottage has a rear patio leading onto an enclosed garden, with a range of garden furniture and uninterrupted views over the Bettws Valley towards the Sugar Loaf Mountain.
There is a laundry room with washing machine, tumble dryer and ironing facilities. Wi-Fi and parking are both free and there is mobile phone reception.
The holiday cottages can be hired together for bigger groups at preferential rates.
Wonderful walking
Bring your wellies or walking boots, a map, and the dog and head out on to the stunning Sugar Loaf Mountain. There are numerous circular walks from the cottages and you can choose the level of difficulty. The summit of the Sugar Loaf is well worth the effort with views on a clear day extending to the Black Mountains in the North, the Cotswolds to the East, the Brecon Beacons to the West, and the Bristol Channel to the South. The cottages are also an excellent base from which to explore the rest of the Black Mountains, or hop in the car for 20 minutes and take on the iconic Brecon Beacons. Those with horses can enjoy miles of uninterrupted rides straight from the farm - what a wonderful way to explore the area.
A foodie's dream..
.Hafod and Cuddfan are ideally located for those interested in visiting the pubs and restaurants that have put this region of the country on the food map. There are four notably superb eateries within around 20 miles and many others for you to discover. These include two Michelin starred restaurants, The Walnut Tree (just over 5 miles away) and The Whitebrook. The cottages are also within easy reach of the celebrated Bell at Skenfrith and 1861 Restaurant.
Then there's numerous award winning vineyards, high tea at the prestigious Angel Hotel in Abergavenny, local delis, great shops and much more.
Time your visit towards the end of September and take in the Abergavenny Food Festival and enjoy the Welsh hospitality and sample some amazing local produce.
