If you enjoy the tales of King Arthur, Camelot, Merlin, Guinevere and much of the legendary Arthurian Story, then you have Geoffrey of Monmouth to thank. His 12th Century History of the Kings of Britain created the powerful legend we know today, and set writers weaving new versions of the legend right across Europe as well as introducing us to other characters such as Shakespeare's King Lear and Cymbeline.
Geoffrey of Monmouth (as he styled himself) was perhaps the greatest medieval storyteller and a Monmouthshire legend in every sense. Find out more about him at Monmouth's Shire Hall, discover the town of his birth and head off on our 'Geoffrey of Monmouth' Trail.
