The bucolic landscape of Monmouthshire has provided the backdrop for blockbuster films such as Captain America and long-running BBC series including Doctor Who. Monmouthshire also regularly features on popular TV programmes such as Countryfile, Escape to the Countryside, Escape to the Farm with Kate Humble, and Gardeners’ World.
Rockfield Studios near Monmouth has been the subject of a BBC documentary (telling the story of two brothers who turned their Monmouthshire farm into a world famous recording studio). The studios also featured in the film 'Bohemian Rhapsody' (having hosted Queen, Oasis, The Stone Roses, Ozzy Osbourne and many more since their founding in the 1960s).
The film adaptation of Owen Sheers’ 'Resistance' is set in the remote and stunningly beautiful Vale of Ewyas while the more recent Netflix production 'Sex Education' features a variety of picturesque locations within the inspirational Wye Valley. We also have the ITV period drama Sanditon filming extensively at Caldicot Castle, the Michael Sheen directed BBC drama 'The Way' filming in Monmouth, and there’s no mistaking the magical Puzzlewood in the nearby Forest of Dean, which features in the 2017 Star Wars picture 'The Force Awakens'.
