Learn how to make cider on this cider making course with award-winning local cider maker James McCrindle of McCrindle’s Cider.
You’ll start the day by visiting a local orchard where James will talk about keeping an orchard and the varieties of apples suitable for cider-making. Then it’s time to roll up your sleeves and gather cider apples to take back to the farm.
During the afternoon you will help to wash, mill and press the fruit, creating your own apple juice to take away. You will learn how to calculate predicted ABV and anaylse the sugar levels. James will explain how to care for your juice, including how to pasteurize for safe consumption.
This course also includes a tutored tasting of McCrindle’s Cider: James will explain how different production methods create the varying tastes in his range of cider and perry.
Cider Making only takes place in the autumn because that’s when the apples are ready!

Easily accessible, situated close to the M4, M5 and M50.From the North, Monmouth, Ross-on-Wye & M50Take the A40 Southbound exiting at Monmouth, follow signposts to the B4293 directing you through two left turns towards Trellech/ Chepstow. After the series of bends the road straightens and at the top of the hill, with views on your right, take the first left hand turn, signposted towards Penallt. Continue for approximately 1 mile, taking the next available left - signposted 'The Craig/ No through rd'.Humble by Nature is the first entrance on the left.From the east, Bristol & the M4Exiting the M4 towards Chepstow and the Old Severn Crossing, follow signposts along the A466 to Chepstow Racecourse. At the Racecourse take the first exit at the roundabout signposted B4293 to Devauden. Continue along this road passing through Devauden, Llanishen and Trelleck. Almost 3 miles after Trellech, with magnificent views on your left, take a sharp right signposted Penallt.
