About

Join Monmouthshire Countryside for a FREE 5 mile (8 km) guided walk through the Clydach Valley. We will ascend to the hamlet of Waunllapria, with a possible diversion to visit the site of the former Blaen Dyar Colliery. Following old lanes and dramways, we will pass the site of Gelli-felen colliery before descending to join the track-bed of the old Abergavenny and Merthyr railway line (now a Sustrans cycle route) to return to Clydach village. Descending via an old dramway, we will pass the old Ironworks before returning to the start point.

1 steep slope and one stile. Bring your own packed lunch and a drink. Not suitable for dogs, including assistance dogs. There is no charge for this activity. Wear stout shoes or boots and bring waterproof clothing.

The timings for each walk is only an approximate guide. The actual time may vary depending on the weather, the terrain, the number of stiles as well as the number and ability of the walkers.

Please email marklangley@monmouthshire.gov.uk if you find out on the day of the walk that you cannot make it.
