Blackthorn Lodge is situated in Blackthorn Meadow which is in the rural village of Coed-y-Paen and is only 2 minutes’ drive or 10 minutes’ walk to the former Carpenters' Arms Public House & Restaurant and Llandegfedd Reservoir’s Visitor and Water sports Centre. Set in just under 2 acres of grounds - which it shares with our other holiday let Hawthorn Lodge - this Visit Wales Four Star graded, two bedroomed country bungalow offers a private outdoor red cedar barrel sauna for guests use only, multiple off-road car parking, free WIFI and a children’s play area.Blackthorn’s lounge has a large comfortable L-shaped corner sofa and a table and chairs. It offers a beautiful log burning multi-fuel stove - there is nothing nicer than snuggling up in front of a real fire as it heats the radiators in the bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom and hallway. Blackthorn Lodge has a 43" Ultra High Definition Smart TV which can access aps including Netflix and YouTube and offers catch-up tv in the lounge and a 32" Freeview tv in the double bedroom. Both TVs have Freeview tv and radio channels and USB ports should you wish to bring your own film collection with you to watch. There is also a Blu-ray DVD player in the lounge.
The modern, well stocked, fitted kitchen area has a fridge freezer, washing machine, electric ceramic hob, a single electric oven with grill and a microwave oven. The lodge has ceramic floor tiles throughout and the bathroom is a fully tiled wet room with a shower, toilet and sink. Blackthorn lodge can comfortably sleep up to 4 people – it has a double bed in the master bedroom and two single beds in the twin room.
The exterior consists of a private lockable side garden area with a red cedar barrel sauna for guests' use. The front patio area offers garden furniture, potted flowers and a very large grassed area for recreational purposes. A children's play area is also available and includes a climbing tower with a slide, a rock-climbing wall and a double swing set. There is also a swing rocker, football goal posts, balls etc. and during good weather children can access a trampoline - subject to conditions. A brick built BBQ is available for guests' use. There is also a small fruit orchard which is home to a small flock of free-range chicken and our geese. The accommodation is suitable for couples, friends and families and where possible is disability friendly. It has a wet room style shower and wheelchair accessible doors, electric sockets and light switches. There are no hidden extras. Electricity, wood and anthracite for the fire, towels and bed linen are all included in the price.
Llandegfedd Reservoir is located in the heart of beautiful countryside and forms a 434 acre lake, which is 1.5 miles long and 1 mile wide at the widest point. The entire site has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to its richness in wildlife. The reservoir offers something for all ages including a range of water sports, bird watching, fishing, walks and a café where you can look out over the reservoir while enjoying a cooked breakfast or a range of other refreshments.
Blackthorn Meadow is also close to two local golf courses – Greenmeadow Golf and Country Club and Woodlake Park Golf Club. Abergavenny, Cardiff, Monmouth, Brecon Beacons are also less than 30 minutes' drive.
Usk town offers a range of small traditional rural shops, coffee shops, pubs and restaurants while Cwmbran - which is less than 4 miles away - offers a Bowl Plex, Vue Cinema, Community Farm and a host of cafes, restaurants and large retailers.
Local attractions include Blaenavon World Heritage Site, Big Pit Mining Museum, Caerleon’s Roman Amphitheatre, Roman Fortress and Baths, Llandegfedd Reservoir’s walks and water sports, Cwmbran’s Boating Lake and Greenmeadow Community Farm, Usk’s Picnic Area (by the river) and so much more. It is 10 minutes' walk or 5 minutes' drive to The Carpenters Arms public house and restaurant and Llandegfedd Reservoir's Water Sports Centre and Llandegfedd Trail walk.

Travelling from the East
• Leave the M4 at Junction 25A
• Follow signs to Abergavenny A4042
• Remain on the A4042 for 4.74 mile passing through four roundabouts
• At the fifth (Crematorium) roundabout take the third exit onto Treherbert Road (Signposted Greenmeadow Golf and Country Club)
• Continue straight on for 0.9 miles then turn left (look for a wooden bench immediately before the turning)
• Continue straight though the lane for approx 1.1 miles and turn right at the top of the hill onto Whitehall Lane.
• Destination is on the right.
Travelling from the West
• Leave the M4 motorway at junction 26 onto the A4051
• Continue onto Malpas Road – following the signs for Cwmbran/Pontypool (A4042)
• At the roundabout take the third exit towards A4042
• Keep left then take the first exit at the next roundabout onto the A4042
• Go straight on through two roundabouts following the signs for Pontypool (A4042)
• At the third (Crematorium) roundabout turn right onto Treherbert Road (Signposted Greenmeadow Golf and Country Club)
• Drive straight on for 0.9 miles then turn left (look for a wooden benchimmediately before the turning)
• Continue straight on for approx 1.1 miles and turn right at the top of the hill onto Whitehall Lane.
• Destination is on the right.
If you get lost go to ?the Carpenters Arms NP4 0TH With the church on your left-hand side and ?the Carpenters Arms car park on your right drive to the junction and turn right. Take your next turning left signposted Cwmbran - and drive for 400 yards until you come to a bend in the lane. Turn left before the bend and then take your first right. You will have arrived at Blackthorn Meadow.??
