(A visit to Parva Farm Vineyard)
Monmouthshire officially has the best wine in Wales (as well as the best Sparkling Rosé), with Parva Farm Vineyard in Tintern winning these awards for their Dathliad Rosé at the 2022 Welsh Wine Awards. Congratulations to Judith & Colin for all their hard work. Their vineyard can be found on the slopes of the Wye Valley above Tintern, with great views down over towards Tintern Abbey.
As well as the best oveall wine, Monmouthshire also has the best Still Red wine, with White Castle Vineyard's Barrel 48 Vintage 2020 winning the top prize in this category. White Castle Vineyard are based just outside Abergavenny, and also picked up a Gold Award at the Decanter World Wine Awards in 2021.
On top of this Monmouthshire wines won a further three silver awards and five bronze awards, including a bronze for newcomers The Dell Vineyard (their bronze winning Yr Afanc can be purchased at Marches Deli in Monmouth). Not bad for their first try!
Congratulations to all the winners, and make sure to plan a trip to our vineyards to sample this award winning wine for yourself.
You can see all our vineyards here. They all run tours and tasting, but make sure to check their opening hours over the winter.
The Welsh Wine Awards are run by the Welsh Vineyard Association, one of seven regional associations across Engand and Wales. Wales currently has 33 established vineyards, with five of them in Monmouthshire.
