Great news for Monmouthshire's restaurants as The Walnut Tree near Abergavenny and The Whitebrook in the Wye Valley both retained their Michelin Stars for 2025. This is the 15th (Walnut Tree) and 11th (Whitebrook) year in a row the restaurants have had a coveted Michelin Star, which are both the longest in Wales.
The Whitebrook also retained their Michelin Green Star for a second year, reaffirming their place as at the forefront of sustainable gastronomy.
Heart and Soul in every meal at The Walnut Tree
The Walnut Tree has held a Michelin Star for fifteen years now, continuing the fantastic legacy of Franco Taruschio from when he established it as the place to eat in Wales back in the 1960s. Nowadays it is run by 'the quintessential chef’s chef' Shaun Hill with no-frills, consistently delicious dishes that combine the classical and the modern.
As the Michelin guide says, The Walnut Tree is run with 'heart and soul'. You can see this in the dishes, in the cosy, open-fired bar, in the local artwork on the walls and the high quality all around.

The Whitebrook, the 'very definition of a destination restaurant'
You don't stumble across The Whitebrook. You find it, and it'll find you. Found in a isolated woodland vale just off of the Wye Valley, the location and the restaurant are one. Head chef Chris Harrod makes extensive use of foraged produce from the surrounding area and kitchen garden, with menus and theming to match. It's why they have kept a Michelin Green Star for a second year, celebrating restaurants for their committed approach to sustainability.
Their food is also of a consistent high quality, holding a Michelin Star for 11 consecutive years. The Michelin Guide particularly recommends the Middle White suckling pig!
