Diving into the work of artists who stood on the shoulders of Cubism – or reacted against it – and those who began to paint in pure abstraction, this ten-week online evening class explores the period from 1910 to 1950. It introduces the many ‘isms’ of the early 20th century in straightforward language, from Expressionism to Abstract Expressionism, from Franz Marc’s blue horses to Jackson Pollock’s astounding creations. This series of one-hour lectures is an opportunity to gain an overview of the period and understand what the Modernists were hoping to achieve.
