A groundbreaking artist who became part of the establishment in both Britain and America while occupying a bohemian world of writers, musicians and actors. Sargent shocked the elite of Paris and charmed the rich of London. Eleanor explores the work of John Singer Sargent from his early studies in Paris to his late landscapes and work as a War Artist. One of the greatest painters of people who largely abandoned portraiture at the height of his fame. The talk also heralds the Autumn Art History course which looks at Portraiture “Facing the Past”.
