About

Chepstow is set to transport residents and visitors alike back in time with a Tudor celebration and Street Party, marking the 500th anniversary of Chepstow's iconic town arch and the town charter of 1524. The event promises to be a fun community led journey into the past, offering a range of activities, entertainment, and historical immersion for all ages.

Taking place on 18th May, starting at 10.30am from St Mary's Priory, attendees are invited to embrace the era by donning optional Tudor themed attire as they browse a selection of community market stalls, enjoy music, food, and drink, and participate in an array of activities ranging from re-enactments to children's games and falconry displays. This free event is designed to celebrate Chepstow's rich history in collaboration with the community.

Entertainment will be abound throughout the day, featuring performances by Divertimenti, The Dell School Choir, U3A recorder group, U3A Play Reading Group, Tudor Syndicate with special guest Alex White, Widders Border-Morris Dancers, Chepstow Male Voice Choir, Bristol Waites, Chepstow Folk Dance Club, Chepstow Choral Society, Chepstow Chatelaine, The Singing Club, Ty Croeso, trumpet fanfares arranged by Brian Ellam and guided historical walks by The Chepstow Society. Attendees will also have the opportunity to explore inside the Town Arch, adding a deeper layer of historical immersion to the festivities.

As part of the Chepstow 500 celebration, the Unicorn Singers will enchant audiences in St Mary's Priory with a musical journey commemorating the last 500 years. Expect to be serenaded with music reminiscent of the streets and taverns of 1524, melodies from the courts of Henry VIII and France, and compositions celebrating the era's stability and gratitude, spanning from the sixteenth century to the present day. Tickets are on sale now via the Chepstow Town Council website.

This Tudor Street Party promises to be a celebration of Chepstow's heritage, offering a blend of entertainment, history, and community spirit. Join us as we step back in time and revel in the festivities!
