About

The 10th Exhibition on Screen season of films focussing on artists, and bringing exhibitions of their work from all over the world with expert comments and insights to the cinema screen, begins with Edward Hopper whose work is the most recognizable art in America – popular, praised, and mysterious. Countless painters, photographers, filmmakers and musicians have been influenced by and have imitated his art. Rothko, Banksy, Alfred Hitchcock, David Lynch, and even The Simpsons have all been inspired by the unique way Hopper captured American life.

This new film takes a look not just at his work but his life, to find out just how a struggling illustrator created such a bounty of notable work.  The film explores Hopper’s enigmatic personality behind the brush. Combined with expert interviews, diaries, and a startling visual reflection of American life, “Hopper, an American Love Story” brings to life America’s arguably most influential artist.

Tickets £10 can be booked online at www.drillhallchepstow.co.uk or at the door on the night from 6.45pm. Exhibition on Screen films at Chepstow are shown in support of MonLife Heritage Museums.
