About

KLIMT & THE KISS is a powerful and passionate new film from Exhibition on Screen showing at The Drill Hall Chepstow Tuesday 7 November 7.30pm. The Kiss is one of the most recognised and reproduced paintings in the world, a popular image for posters on so many students’ walls.

Painted in Vienna by Gustav Klimt around 1908, the evocative image of an unknown embracing couple has captivated generations of viewers with its mystery, sensuality and dazzling materials ever since it was created. But just what lies behind the appeal of the painting – and just who was the artist that created it?

This film delves into the detail and passion surrounding Klimt’s iconic artwork, the decorative designs, symbolism and glittering real gold. It also reveals the scandalous life of the artist himself, a giant in the decadent Art Nouveau movement that flourished in 1900s Vienna, a glamorous city with an intriguingly dark underbelly.
