A photograph of the award winning string quartet - The Marmen Quartet

About

With a growing reputation for the courage, vitality and intensity of its performances the Marmen Quartet is fast establishing itself as one of the most impressive and engaging new talents in the chamber music arena. Winners of both the Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition and Banff International String Quartet Competition, they were also awarded the Haydn and Canadian Commission prizes.

Their varied programme opens with Josef Haydn's hugely popular Quartet Op33 No 6, followed by a long-standing favourite of the chamber music repertoire Debussy's String Quartet. Written when Debussy was in his early thirties, it was startlingly unique for its time. Clearly inspired by Debussy's quartet Ravel wrote his one and only String Quartet, the impressionism of Debussy's earlier work tempered by a more reserved and classical style.
Nestled between these well-loved works by Debussy and Ravel their programme includes Mozart's early String Quartet K159 clearly a starting point for his Haydn quartets and onward.
