It was a golden night for the golden mead makers of Hive Mind Mead & Brew Co. in Caldicot (formerly Wye Valley Meadery) as their Traditional Mead won a Golden Fork for Wales, the highest Welsh accolade at the Great Taste Awards 2023. This means that out of 195 Welsh food & drink products to have received Great Taste star this year, the Traditional Mead was voted the very best! This comes after they also achieved 2 stars for their Oak Barrel Aged Traditional Mead and 1 Star for their Berried Treasure - Raspberry Vanilla Melomel in the Great Taste judging stage.
So a big congratulations to Kit, Matt and all the team at Hive Mind for representing Monmouthshire so well.

The Great Taste Golden Forks ceremony is the grand final of the world's largest food and drink accreditation scheme based entirely on taste, so to be judged the best in Wales is a huge accolade. The "softly sweet and nuanced, rounded and complex" Traditional Mead was praised for its "glorious blossom aroma", and the judges loved the modern twist Hive Mind take on the world's oldest form of alcohol.
You can try this award winning mead for yourself at Hive Mind's Taproom in Caldicot, just over the road from the medieval Caldicot Castle (on whose towers Hive Mind keep some of their apiaries!). They're open for tours and tasting every week, with the bar open on Friday and Saturday evening to enjoy their mead, honey beers, and more. The last Saturday of every month is also party time, with food & live music at the taproom. You'll find more details in the links below.
Hive Mind will also be at this weekends Abergavenny Food Festival, so make sure to come by and try their award winning drinks!

Golden competition for Monmouthshire
The Golden Fork ceremony was an even more special night for Monmouthshire, as two of the three finalists hailed from this county. Hive Mind were joined by Abergavenny based Black Welsh Lamb, with their Pedigree, Organic, Pasture-fed Hogget Leg. Sadly there could be only one winner, but congratulations to them for making it to the final. Coming top 3 out of 192 (and even more who entered) is a massive achievement.
