Cows at Brooke's Dairy
There was fantastic success for Monmouthshire's producers at the 2024 Great Taste Awards at the start of August, with five businesses achieving a total of 11 stars, including the highest award of three stars for Black Welsh Lamb's organic, pasture-fed mutton shoulder.
The Great Taste Awards are a prestigious annual food award, where products are judged by a panel of over 500 experts made up of chefs, buyers, food writers and retailers, so winning even one star is a fantastic achievement.
Congratulations to all our producers who made the list. You can see all of our winners below, plus (most importantly) links for where to buy the great food & drink :
Black Welsh Lamb
Great success for Abergavenny based Black Welsh Lamb as for the second year in a row one of their products has achieved a three star rating.

Hive Mind Mead
- 2 Star - Zambian Forest Honey Traditional Mead
- 2 Star - Oak Barrel Aged Traditional Mead
Fresh off of their Golden Fork Award win in 2023, Caldicot based Hive Mind Mead & Brew Co. continue to succeed with two stars for both their Zambian Forest Honey Mead ("A wonderful mead that is beautifully executed and delicate") and Oak Barrel Aged Traditional Mead ("an impressively deep and complex mead with almost umami depth").
It's especially great to see success for their Zambian Mead, which was born out of a collaboration with Monmouth's Bees for Development charity, with 10% of the profits donated to Bees for Development.

Silver Circle Distillery

Brooke's Dairy
- 2 Star - Blue Wenallt Cheese
Brooke's Dairy have only recently started making cheese to go along with their already award winning ice-cream line, and it's great to see them already being awarded for it. These two stars follow on from winning a Silver Award at the British Cheese Awards in March.

The Preservation Society
- 1 Star - Blissfully Blackcurrant Jam
Long a Great Taste favourite, the Blissfully Blackcurrant Jam has again won a star at this years award. Unlike the jam, the award is slightly bittersweet as Angharad from The Preservation Society has stepped back from food production to focus on her courses and events at the Duckling Barn in St Briavels.
There's still product available on her website though, so buy it whilst you can! When it is gone, it's gone.
