About

A 5.3 mile walk, starting in Tintern, with some steep sections.

The route heads out of Tintern above the Abbey, following the Wye Valley Walk up into dense woodland. Leaving the wood you cross a mix of farmland and quiet lanes and climb steadily to Gaer Hill with its fabulous views over Chepstow, the Severn Estuary and farther afield to England. You now descend to Penterry Church, then through a succession of open fields, lanes and tracks through lush woodland back down into Tintern.

Points of interest include industrial archaeology at the Lower Wireworks, Penterry Church, Gaer Hill Fort, Tintern Lime Kilns and views of Tintern Abbey.
