About

Fourteen Locks Canal Centre and Cafe is a popular family attraction that is positioned on top of the Cefn flight, an engineering wonder of the industrial revolution that is located in the picturesque area of Newport. As a result of the support of the Heritage Lottery Funding two pairs of locks have been restored.

A family and dog friendly location managed by the Monmouthshire, Brecon and Abergavenny Canals Trust (MBACT), with an abundance of history, activity trails, music festivals, family events, forest schools and education days running throughout the year. The canal towpath is part of the national cycle route 47 and the beautiful Sirhowy valley walk. If you are a business or community group, the meeting room is available to hire, groups such as Art and Camcorder club meet on a regular basis.

The beautifully decorated Tea Room caters for all dietary requirements and serves delicious homemade food.
Our recently refurbished gift shop is full of unique, handmade crafts designed by local and talented artisans. Display boards are also available to hire on a monthly basis, for groups or individual artists.

Becoming a volunteer you help our growing team help run this busy community hub. The Trust and Newport City Council have also created The Canal and Countryside volunteer team, working in conservation around the locks and Allt yr yn nature reserve.

On the last Saturday of every month Newport City Council and the Fourteen locks lead a walk from the centre starting at 9.30am. Please check the website for walk information or any changes to the schedule.

Visiting the Canal Centre, or becoming a member, you are helping MBACT maintain this 200 year old waterway. It could not have been possible without all involved! You can find out more information by ringing or dropping in. Our welcoming, friendly staff are always happy to see you and help with any queries.

The Fourteen Locks Canal Visitor Centre is situated off Junction 27 of the M4 motorway. Take the high cross road and after approximately half a mile turn right in to Cefn Walk (signposted Fourteen Locks) go over the canal bridge and the centre car park is on your right.
