The Unibet Jump Season Opener at Chepstow Racecourse is a thrilling two-day event that marks the beginning of the winter National Hunt season in the UK. Taking place on October 11th and 12th, 2024, this event is a highlight of the racing calendar, attracting top horses, jockeys, and trainers with a total prize fund of up to £400,000.

Day 1 kicks off with exciting races and sets the stage for the season ahead.

🎧 DJ and Host Keep the party going with our energetic DJ and host, who will ensure non-stop entertainment throughout the day.

🍺 German Beer Delights Savour the taste of Germany with our selection of authentic German beers including Erdinger and Holsten!

🥨 Pretzels and Sausage Delicacies Indulge in traditional pretzels and delicious German sausages.

A Host of Valuable Races

Friday contains the £50,000 Grade 2 Unibet Persian War Novices’ Hurdle, is the day’s feature race. It’s been won by plenty of top class horses including Bonanza Boy, Blaklion and Silviniaco Conti.

The 14x champion trainer Paul Nicholls has won the race eight times with his West Country counterpart Philip Hobbs successful on six occasions.

One of the other feature events on the day is the Veterans’ Handicap Chase where we get to see some of the old warriors return to Chepstow Races!

The Unibet Welsh Jump Jockeys' Derby

After raising an incredible £15,517 for LATCH Welsh Children's Cancer Charity last year the Unibet Racing Welsh Jump Jockeys' Derby is back for 2024!

We're delighted to be supporting LATCH once again, to support the incredible work they do to help the families of children suffering with cancer, including that of Betsy Williams, daughter of the Welsh trainer Christian Williams.

Road Directions

The racecourse is on the A466 Chepstow to Monmouth road, not far from the now toll-free Severn Bridge. From the M4 East (Junction 21) or M4 West (Junction 23), take the M48 and exit at Junction 2 (Chepstow). Then follow the brown racecourse signs. Please leave ample time for your journey for our busiest race days. Aim to arrive at the course at least an hour before the first race.

Public Transport Directions

By Bus  A shuttle bus service provided by Newport Transport operates from Chepstow Train Station to the Racecourse via the town's bus station. The service also operates from Newport Train Station direct to the Racecourse. Please note: the bus timetable can be downloaded on the website page for the specific fixture you are attending. 

£5 single from Newport train station to Chepstow racecourse – Free return on presentation of the ticket to the driver £1 single from Chepstow train and bus station to the racecourse. By Rail  Chepstow station is approximately 10 minutes walk from the town centre. There are direct trains to Chepstow from Birmingham, Cardiff, Cheltenham Spa, Derby, Gloucester, Newport and Nottingham. Connections are available at Newport for London (Paddington), Hereford, Shrewsbury, Crewe, Manchester,Swansea and all parts of Wales. Also, Bristol, Bath, Exeter, Salisbury, Portsmouth and all parts of South and West England.  Connections at Cheltenham Spa for Yorkshire, North East of England and Scotland. Connections to London airports at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stanstead. Other airports with good connections include Birmingham international, East Midlands, Exeter, Manchester, Bristol, Cardiff International and Southampton.
